DICKSON ON DOUBLE DUTY

LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson has agreed a deal to take over as team manager of Championship club Birmingham.

The club wish to make it clear that this move is with their blessing, and it in no way affects Stewart’s position in charge of the Watling JCB Lions.

The Brummies have endured a tough start to the season with a series of home defeats, and previous team boss Laurence Rogers is reverting to a position as General Manager and Director of Speedway.

Ironically the Perry Barr club do have significant Leicester connections in their team, including their current top two of Nick Morris and Justin Sedgmen.

Dickson said: “It’s a deal with Birmingham to help them out for the foreseeable future, and I recognise the challenge but let’s see what we can do.

“But I must stress to the Leicester fans that I’m still there and this changes nothing for them – it’s simply an arrangement to manage the Birmingham team on race-nights, which never clash with the Lions.

“When Birmingham approached me because of the situation which had developed, I looked at the schedule and it just means me coming down on a Wednesday and staying over before a Leicester fixture, and sometimes I’m in the area all week with little to do between Monday and Thursday anyway.

“I have also spoken to Laurence and we are both comfortable with the situation, and I’m looking forward to getting started there. It’s a good opportunity, but it doesn’t affect anything with my work for Leicester.”
